•Symposium on the Freedom of Worship, Algeria- February 2010

The Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs hosted an historic
high-level conference where they opened the doors of dialogue
between Muslims & Christians. While much of the dialogue was
political in nature, they did seem to make some strides towards
relating to the “other.” Those speaking at the conference ranged
from the Minister of Religious Affairs, Bu Abdullah Gulan Allah, to
the Anglican Archbishop of Northern Africa, Mouneer Anis. The only
American represented as a speaker was Joseph Cumming of the Yale
Center for Faith & Culture.

There were six Americans represented at this conference as well as
small delegations from Germany, Morocco, France, Palestine & Spain.
The rest of the participants were Algerian scholars, government
officials, religious leaders and special guests. We enjoyed wonderful
hospitality, engaging dialogue, new friendships and built bridges of
hope and trust. The relationships that we developed will hopefully go a
long way to invest in continued efforts like this between Muslims and
Christians.
