The Gospel of the Kingdom by George Eldon Ladd
Review from Amazon: Ladd's work on the Kingdom is so important because it sets out a Biblical framework for understanding a reality that was at the heart of Jesus life and teaching: the Kingdom of God. He does here with great brevity what he does more thoroughly in his Theol. of the NT. This little book will get your heart pumping with excitment about the glorious Kingdom which has come and yet is still to come! But beware! This book has HUGE practical implications...the ideas should inspire love for and active obedience to Jesus, not simply more esoteric knowledge.

The Myth of a Christian Nation by Greg Boyd
Boyd does a beautiful job articulating the paradigm of the Kingdom of God according to Jesus, and he sets it up against the kingdom of man. He argues that any struggle to effect political issues (no matter how noble or moral) has nothing to do with the Kingdom of God, because political influence will always deal with the kingdom of man. He argues that the kingdom of man operates in a “power over” framework, while the call of Jesus in the Kingdom of God is to operate in a “power under” framework. The kingdom of man seeks to exert power over people, issues and morality while the Kingdom of God asserts power under by serving others, loving enemies and turning the other cheek. This is one of the best books I have ever read on the Kingdom of God.

The Unshakable Kingdom and the Unchanging Person by E. Stanley Jones
Excerpt from book: “If what I have just said about the Kingdom isn’t true it doesn’t matter, but if it is true then nothing else matters. Then all science, all knowledge, all achievements, all nations, all persons, all things must be related to this Unshakable Kingdom in surrender and obedience and alignment or else end in frustration and failure and decay. I have never penned a wilder or a wiser statement than I have just penned. Nor has anybody else. And I can pen it because it is true!”
